Tim Russert

Tim Russert died of a heart attack yesterday.

It was sudden loss to the political landscape of American Politics.

For those of you that don't know Tim Russert ran Meet The Press for over 15 years, in that time politicians of every persuasion came to be grilled by Russert and often were faced down with their own words. He was never heavy handed even when you wanted him to be, he was fair to both sides when it came to the pursuit of a story, in the pursuit of the truth.

It was that pursuit that endeared Russert to me.

He always reminded me of the kindly, wise owl from Winnie the Pooh (I even think he looked owlish with those eyebrows)

I was shocked upon hearing the news yesterday, and even 24 hours later with a loads of people celebrating his life, it's still hard to believe. I learned that he had more in common with me than I really knew.

He died at the top of his game and we will miss him terribly.
